This app was developed for patients taking part in the TOTO study.The TOTO study is a multicenter clinical study comparing two surgical procedures used in patients with recurrent tonsillitis.
On the one hand there is a partial removal of the tonsils (tonsillotomy), on the other hand a complete removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy).The repeated, sudden onset of tonsillitis is one of the most common diseases in ear, nose and throat medicine, which is often associated with severe sore throats, difficulty swallowing, fever, impaired quality of life and sick leave.All operable patients from the age of 3 years and with significant restrictions due to recurrent tonsillitis in the last 6-12 months are included.With the help of the app, symptoms such as a sore throat and quality of life are recorded over the course of the study for two years.
Access is only possible for included patients.The TOTO app includes regular surveys:1.
Weekly questionnaires with questions about the occurrence of a sore throat.
Push messages serve as a reminder to indicate necessary entries.2.
Additional questions are asked every 6 months about the general quality of life and the occurrence of sore throats.The TOTO study is a clinical study by the German Study Center for ENT Medicine.
